Sferracavallo è un piccolo borgo marinaro e turistico compreso tra Palermo e la vicina Isola delle Femmine. Il nome sembra risalire al fatto che fosse difficilmente raggiungibile e che la strada irta e complessa richiedesse addirittura di “sferrrare i cavalli” per arrivarci.Si trova compreso tra Monte Billiemi e Capo Gallo e rientra in gran parte nella riserva orientata di Capo Gallo (che divide Mondello da Sferracavallo).Comprende due piccoli porticcioli: quello di Sferracavallo appunto e quello di Barcarello.

Sicuramente tra i tesori di Sferracavallo rientrano i suoi ristorantini vicini al mare, i suoi bar e le sue paninerie.

Sferracavallo and its resources

Sferracavallo is a small seafaring and tourist village included between Palermo and the close Isola delle Femmine. 

It includes two small pier: that of just Sferracavallo and that of Barcarello. 

Surely between the treasuries of Sferracavallo we return its restaurant near the sea, the its bar and his paninerie. 

Capo d'Orlando, in provincia di Messina sulla costa Tirrenica in Sicilia proprio di fronte alle Isole Eolie, è un bellissimo centro turistico, con il suo mare cristallino, il sole fantastico e i paesaggi mediterranei, invidiabili da ogni paese.

Il centro della cittadina si sviluppa attorno alla via centrale, fiancheggiata da bei negozi e dal lungomare che corre parallelo ad essa, costeggiando la bella spiaggia. Sull'estremità del promontorio, in cima ad una scalinata, sorge in bella posizione panoramica sui ruderi del castello d'Orlando, il Santuario di Maria SS. di Capo d'Orlando, (XVII sec.), meta di pellegrinaggi in occasione della festa che si svolge il 22 ottobre.

Proseguendo sul lungomare, una volta superato il capo, la strada offre begli scorci sulla spiaggia e sulle acque azzurro intenso del mare, punteggiate di scogli affioranti. Capo d’Orlando per le sue bellezze naturali, per le spiagge, il mare pulito, gli agrumeti che profumano di zagara, il lido suggestivo ed attrezzato, è considerata una vera perla turistica della provincia di Messina , tanto da richiamare ogni anno migliaia di visitatori.

Special Seaside: Capo D'Orlando

Capo d'Orlando, in the province of Messina on the Thyrrenian shore in Sicily, in front of the Eolian Islands, is a beautiful tourist location, with its crystal clear sea, amazing sun and its mediterranean landscapes, enviables by every country.

The center of the town is around a central way, and is sided by a seafront with a marvellous beach. On the top of the promontory, on the summit of a staircase, rises on the ruines of the castle of Orlando, a sanctuary of Maria SS. di Capo d'Orlando, (XVII century), destination of pilgrimages on the occasion of the Holy Day that takes place on the 22th of october. Keeping on the seafront, once passed the cape, the street offers good glimpses on the shore and on the sky-blu water, dotted by rocks.

Capo D'Orlando for its natural beauties, for the seasides, the clear sea, the citrus trees, the suggestive shore, is a real tourist pearl of the province of Messina, and it appeals every year about thousand visitors.

Prima colonia greca in Sicilia, possiede un’ampia zona archeologica con annesso il relativo museo.

Pochi paesaggi assommano le tipiche bellezze di Sicilia come Giardini Naxos, culla di antiche civiltà mediterranee e stazione turistica d’avanguardia del meridione d’Italia.

Il mare e le spiagge di Giardini Naxos sono molto conosciute in tutto il mondo, grazie all'acqua estremamente limpida, la pulizie delle spiagge e il suo bellissimo lungomare.

Famosissima è la Grotta Azzurra, dentro la quale si ammirano diversi tipi di organismi, fra i quali falso corallo, stelle marine e parazoanthus.

La sera, le spiagge del lungomare sono rese più suggestive da un impianto di illuminazione che ne risalta gli scogli, valorizzando anche i punti più remoti dell'arenile e rendendo al visitatore un'atmosfera particolare, con le luci della baia che si riflettono sulla superficie dell'acqua.

Special Seasides: Giardini Naxos.

First greek colony in Sicily, it owns a wide archaeological area with a museum.

Giardini Naxos sums all the typical beauties of Sicily, and it is crib of ancient mediterranean civilizations and tourist station of the southern part of Italy.

The sea and the beaches of Giardini Naxos are very famous all over the world, because of its crystal clear water, its clean seashores and its amazing seafront. The Grotta Azzurra is a wonderful cave, in which you can find several kinds of beings, such as the false coral, starfishes and parazoanthus.

In the evening, the seafront is very suggestive, thanks to a lighting wiring that sticks out the rocks, emphasizing all the corners of the seaside and creating a special athmosphere, reflecting the lights on the water surface.

L'isola di Lampedusa è la più estesa dell'arcipelago siciliano delle Pelagie nel Mar Mediterraneo. Questa isola, più vicina all'Africa che all'Europa, in effetti è parte della piattaforma continentale africana, e la flora e la fauna sono in parte originarie di questo continente e della sua regione maghrebina.

Lampedusa è conosciuta in tutto il mondo per le sue splendide spiagge e scogliere, per la sua vegetazione tipica e per la ricchissima fauna. La spiaggia dei Conigli è uno degli angoli piu' incantevoli della Sicilia e del Mediterraneo grazie alla sua bellezza e al fascino della terra e del mare intatto e azzurrissimo. Le tartarughe Caretta Caretta vi depongono le proprie uova che si dischiudono durante l'estate, rinnovando il mito della vita proprio sotto gli occhi dei bagnanti e dei volontari del WWF che ne controllano e proteggono tutte le fasi. Sull'isola è presente una riserva naturale, che comprende proprio la spiaggia dei Conigli oltre alla limitrofa isola dei Conigli, la costa e la macchia mediterranea.

In circa quattro ore si può effettuare il giro completo dell'isola. Partendo dal porticciolo e, procedendo verso ovest, si incontrano delle splendide spiagge, alcune frastagliate e poco accessibili, ma spettacolari. La costa è ricca di segrete insenature e anfratti nascosti entro cui l'acqua gioca con la luce, creando effetti di grande suggestione.

The Pelagie Island: Lampedusa 

The Mediterranean island of Lampedusa belongs to Italy, Sicily and is the largest of the Pelagie Islands. This island, nearer to Africa than Europe, is part of the African continental shelf, and the fauna and flora of Lampedusa are similar to those of North Africa.

Lampedusa is famous all over the world because of its wonderful beaches and reefs, for its typical vegetation and its rich fauna. The "beach of Rabbit" is one of the most charming corners of the Sicily and of the Mediterranean sea, thanks to its beauty of the land and of the crystal clear sea. The Isola dei Conigli (literally ‘Island of Rabbits’), which is close to the south coast of Lampedusa, is one of the last remaining egg-laying sites in Italy for the Loggerhead Sea Turtle, which is endangered throughout the Mediterranean. On the island there is a natural reserve, that include the beach of rabbits and the surrounding reef.

In about four hours you can do the complete tour of the island. Leaving from the little harbour and going ahead toward the western side, you can find amazing seasides , some notched and not easily accessible, but really marvellous. The reef is rich of secret creeks in which the water creates great suggestions playing with the light.

Le Isole Egadi sono un arcipelago di tre isole principali e due minori, posto a circa 7 km dalla costa occidentale della Sicilia, fra Marsala e Trapani. Tra esse, la più conosciuta è sicuramente Favignana.

La "Farfalla", come viene chiamata l'isola per la sua forma particolarissima, è nota per le sue spiagge e grotte marine, ma anche per la pesca del tonno, la cosidetta "Mattanza".

La costa dell'isola offre una vasta gamma di insenature, rocciose e sabbiose, ma anche delle bellissime grotte marine e dei fondali ricchi di fauna marina e vegetazione. Le spiagge più famose sono in particolare Cala Azzurra e Lido Burrone, spiagge sabbiose a sud del centro abitato; più spettacolari ed affascinanti sono però le calette rocciose, in particolare la Cala Rossa e la poco distante Grotta del Bue Marino. L'aspetto più singolare di questi luoghi è che sono zone di estrazione del tufo, e qui le cave si sviluppano in grandi e misteriosi cunicoli. Nell'altra metà dell'isola, le più belle sono Cala Rotonda, Cala Grande e Punta Ferro, punto di partenza per gli amanti delle immersioni.

La principale attrazione dell'isola rimane però la Mattanza. Il complicato e rituale sistema di pesca del tonno segue regole ben precise, tempi e modi rigorosamente stabiliti dal Rais, capo della tonnara ed un tempo anche capo assoluto del villaggio, una sorta di sciamano che stabilisce quando iniziare e quali tempi e modalità seguire.

The Aegadian Islands: Favignana

The Aegadian Islands are a group of 5 small mountainous islands in the Mediterranean Sea off the northwest coast of Sicily, Italy, near the city of Trapani. The most famous is certainly Favignana.

The "Butterfly", as everybody call it because of its particular shape, is known for its seasides and sea caves, but also for the tuna fishing, the "Mattanza".

The shore of the island is full of rocky and sandy creeks, but also of beautiful sea caves and sea floors rich in flora and fauna. The most famous seasides are Cala Azzurra and Lido Burrone, sandy shores in the southern part of the island; more spectacular are the rocky shores, such as Cala Rossa and the Grotta del Bue Marino. The peculiarity of these places is that they are areas of tuff mining, and here the caves create big and mysterious tunnels. In the other half of the island, there are Cala Rotonda, Cala Grande and Punta Ferro, places for the scuba diving lovers.

The main tourist attraction of the island is the Mattanza. The complicated and ritual system of fishing has rigorous rules, the "rais", the chief of the tuna fishing and of the village, decides times and lines of the Mattanza.

Special Seasides in Sicily 

Dear Readers,

We have dealed with food, art, traditions and culture, but certainly one of the main resources of Sicily, especially in the summertime, is the sea.

We have already dealed with famous seasides: Mondello, Cefalù, Lo Zingaro, Taormina, Letojanni.

Today we want to introduce you in some places, which are more unique, less known and really interesting:

Letojanni rientra nella provincia di Messina e si sviluppa a cinque metri sul livello del mare. Il centro e' suddiviso in due parti dalla fiumara omonima. Fino alla metà dell'Ottocento, Letojanni era soltanto un piccolo borgo di pescatori oggi si è trasformata in una delle più importanti località turistiche siciliane.

La fama di Letojanni è dovuta alla bellezza del suo mare, intenso e blu, tra i più puri della Sicilia, e delle sue spiagge, dove si alternano sabbia e ghiaia. Il suo lungomare, con le sue palme e i suoi pini, è l'ideale per passeggiare respirando la salubre brezza marina o ristorarsi nei numerosi locali della riviera. Una buona colazione con le tipiche granite e brioches offerte dai bar del paese darà la giusta "carica" per affrontare la mattinata al mare, prendendo la tintarella o praticando i vari sport estivi offerti sul posto. Al calar della sera è d'obbligo frequentare Piazza Durante, salotto della città per eccellenza, darsi appuntamento con gli amici e scegliere il divertimento serale per trascorrere in allegria le tante notti letojannesi.

Questa cittadina è divenuta famosa a livello nazionale anche grazie al Cinema: qui, infatti, il celebre attore comico Roberto Benigni ha girato alcune sequenze del suo film "Johnny Stecchino", ed è spesso utilizzata come location per numerose fiction televisive.

 Letojanni 

Letojanni is a town of the province of Messina, placed at five metres above sea level. The center is divided in two parts by the namesake river. Until the half of XIX century, Letojanni was just a little fishermans' village, now it is one of the most important tourist centers of Sicily.

The notoriety of Letojanni is due to the beauty of its sea, deep and blue, one of the most clean of the Sicily, and of its sandy or pebbly seashores. Its seafront, with palms and pines, is perfect for walks, breathing sea breeze or having lunch in one of the numerous restaurants. A good breakfast with the typical tasty water-ices and brioches, served in the bars of the town, will give you the right boost to face a morning in the seaside, tanning or doing several summer sports. In the evening you must go to Piazza Durante, salon of the town, and just choose the entertainment for spending the night joyfully with your friends.

This town is known nationwide also because of the Cinema: in fact the famous actor Roberto Benigni has setted here some sequences of his movie "Johnny Stecchino", and the town is often used as location for several TV movies.

San Vito Lo Capo, nella provincia di Trapani, è famosa per il suo mare e la sua spiaggia, quasi tre chilometri di sabbia dorata, da fare invidia ai più rinomati paradisi dei mari del sud.
Il mare cristallino, il fondale che degrada dolcemente e l'assenza di correnti rendono questa zona adatta anche ai nuotatori non esperti e ai piccoli. 
Chi invece preferisce gli scogli alla sabbia, ha una vasta scelta per fare meravigliosi bagni e divertenti tuffi.
Il lungomare consente di passeggiare a pochi metri dalla battigia della spiaggia, e così anche la strada che porta all'altissimo faro. Una strada panoramica attraversa l'altopiano, offrendo alla vista lo splendido paese e il suo golfo.

Il porto di San Vito Lo Capo è uno dei più sicuri dell'intera Sicilia. E' situato all'interno di un golfo chiuso, con due estese secche rocciose che frangono le onde, e bene lo sapevano romani, fenici, arabi, normanni, spagnoli, che qui venivano a calare le ancore per sfuggire alle tempeste.

Da San Vito Lo Capo si accede ad uno degli angoli più magici della Sicilia, la Riserva Naturale dello Zingaro, dove muraglioni di roccia calcarea si innalzano al di sopra di una ricca e florida vegetazione, finendo poi per gettarsi a capofitto in un mare cristallino, rivelando piccole calette sabbiose e grotte sommerse ricche di pesci e piante marine.

Un luogo naturalistico incontaminato da non perdere!

San Vito Lo Capo e Lo Zingaro

San Vito Lo Capo, in the province of Trapani, is famous for its sea and seaside, almost 3 Kilometres of golden sand, it has nothing to envy at the most known paradises of southern seas.
The Crystal-clear sea, the floor and the lack of streams make this area suitable also for inexperieced swimmers and for children. 
Who prefers rocks, has a wide choice to have marvellous swims and funny dives.The seafront allows to walk near the shore, and also the street taking to the high lighthouse. A panoramic street crosses the plateau, offering a wiew of the wonderful town and its gulf.

The harbour of di San Vito Lo Capo is one of the safest all over Sicily. It is places inside of a closed gulf, with two wide rocky shallows that break the waves, and roman, phoenician, arabian, norman, spanish folks knew it well, infact they came here to drop anchors and to escape storms.

From San Vito Lo Capo, you can accede to one of the most magic corners of Sicily, the Natural Reserve Lo Zingaro, where high rocky walls rule over a rich and florid vegetation, dropping headlong over a crystal sea, revealing small shores and sunken caves rich in fishes and sea plants.

A natural uncontaminated place to visit!

Tutti sanno che la provincia di Palermo è contornata da spiagge bellissime.
Ma non tutti invece sanno che queste spiagge sono mete di surfisti e amanti degli sport acquatici provenienti da tutto il mondo.
Mondello, Cefalù, Trappeto, Cinisi sono solo alcune tra le località preferite per una giornata di surf, con onde che arrivano anche fino a 2 metri e mezzo.
Mondello si trova a Palermo, è una lunga distesa di sabbia bianca e mare cristallino.
E’ molto nota, anche perché una volta all’anno ospita il “World Festival on the Beach”, una manifestazione che riunisce sportivi e curiosi da tutto il mondo, e durante la quale si svolgono competizioni internazionali di Surf, Windsurf, Kitesurf, Vela e Beach Volley.

Cefalù è una località turistica a circa 70 km da Palermo, nota per le sue bellezze artistiche ma anche per le sue spiagge e meraviglie naturalistiche. Se vi capita di visitarla a fine agosto, sul lungomare, troverete moltissimi surfisti spericolati impegnati a cavalcare le lunghe onde al tramonto con le loro tavole, uno spettacolo da non perdere!

Ma la spiaggia più frequentata dagli amanti degli sport estremi è “Ciammarita”, a Trappeto, a 50 km da Palermo.
E’ uno “Spot”, così si definisce nel gergo surfista, molto amato, soprattutto nel periodo invernale, perché offre delle onde alte e di forma tubante, ed è facilmente raggiungibile con la macchina.
Insomma, la nostra Sicilia non ha niente da invidiare a località famose come Biarritz, Bali, Malibù e tante altre!

Non preoccupatevi, queste spiagge bellissime si possono godere anche solo per prendere un’abbronzatura dorata e per fare una bella nuotata.

Surfin' Siciliae!

Everyone knows that the province of Palermo is surrounded by amazing seashores.
But not everyone knows that these shores are destinations of surfers and water sports addicted.
Mondello, Cefalù, Trappeto, Cinisi are some favourite resorts for a surf day, with waves of almost 2 and half metres.
Mondello, placed in Palermo, is a long spot of white sand and crystal-clear sea.
It is really famous, even because once at year it is the host of the “World Festival on the beach”, an event that assembles sportsmen and curioses from all over the world, international Surf, Windsurf, Kitesurf, Sail and Beach Volley competitions.
Cefalù is a famous tourist spot far 70 kilometres from Palermo, known for its artistic treasures but also for its seashores and naturalistic wonders. If you visit cefalù at the end of august, on the seafront, you’ll find many rash surfers riding the long waves at the sunset with their boards, an amazing show!

But the most famous seashore is “Ciammarita”, Trappeto, far 50 kilometres from Palermo.
It’s a cherished “Spot”, as the surfers call it, aboveall in winter time, because it offers high and pipe waves, and it’s easy to be reached by car.
Our Sicily has nothing to envy to famous spots as Biarritz, Bali, Malibù and many more!


Are you not able to surf?

Don’t worry about it, these beautiful seasides are good also just to obtain a golden tanning and to have a fine swim.

Colorata, divertente, affascinante, insolita, maestosa……è una delle mete siciliane preferite dal turismo internazionale nonché il luogo dei primi insediamenti greci dell’300 a.C: Taormina. Il nome originale della cittadina era Tauromènion; sulla sua nascita non si hanno molte notizie certe. Nacque come insediamento greco, fu un’ importante roccaforte bizantina ma divenne anche uno dei principali centri della cultura musulmana in Sicilia cambiando il proprio nome in “Al muizziah” nel 902 d.C..

Al centro della sua bellezza sta il suo antico teatro romano edificato nel II secolo dopo Cristo che si sviluppa in un punto che sembra collegare il mare all’Etna, il vulcano che sovrasta Catania.

Oggi rappresenta il salotto “buono”  del turismo di Catania nonché fulcro di alcuni tra i principali eventi culturali dell’isola.

Taormina....the pearl of the tourism in Sicily

The original name of the little town was Tauromènion; there aren’t a lot of certain news on its birth. It was born by Greek installation, it was an important Byzantine fortress but it also became one of the principal place of the Moslem culture in Sicily changing its name in "Al muizziah" during the 902 a.C..

Today it represents the heart of the luxury tourism around Catania as well as fulcrum of some of principal cultural events of the island.

The most important tourist attraction is its ancient Roman theatre that was built in the II century after Christ and was established in a point that seems to connect the sea to the Etna, the volcano that overtops Catania.
